Qindra sarandjote dhe pjesëmarrës nga Greqia dhe Italia ne festen e midhjes ne Sarandë, kane shpërfillur alarmin e Autoritetit Kombëtar te Ushqimit, duke e konsumuar te freskët produktin e kultivuar ne Butrint. Prej tre javësh ne fakt u bllokua tregtimi i midhjeve, për shkak te ngarkesës se larte me bakterin esheria koli. Por pjesëmarrësit ne festen e pare te midhjes qe u zhvillua ne Sarandë ne prag te sezonit, e kane shijuar atë te freskët ne panairin e gatimit. Ndërsa kreu i Bashkise se Sarandës, Stefan Çipa, theksoi se midhja është brenda parametrave dhe akuzoi strukturat qeveritare se po synojnë te dëmtojnë turizmin ne këtë zone. Ndonëse dikur eksportohej dhe ishte mjaft e kërkuar, prej vitesh ky proces është ndaluar nga Bashkimi Evropian. Aktualisht ne liqenin e Butrintit me një sipërfaqe prej 1600 hektarësh, ndodhen rreth 78 impiante te prodhimit te saj me te cilat operojnë 50 subjekte private. Prodhimi i midhjes ne vit shkon ne 13 deri ne 15 mije kv.
